Dear ISRA Members,
This month we are hosting Robert Spence who is running to be our next State's Attorney in Kane County to replace Joe McMahon. Mr. Spence is a pro 2nd amendment supporter and we look forward to having him at our meeting on Feb 11th, 2020.
We will be meeting at the Golden Corral, 1591 S. Randall Road, Algonquin, IL 60102. The meeting starts at 7 pm but come early at 6pm for a meal. If you have any questions feel free to contact Robert Whitley, Coordinator ISRA NW Town Hall at his cell: 847-363-3728.
Here are a few background notes of our guest speaker.
Bob began his legal career in 1980 at the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted misdemeanor and the felony criminal cases until 1986. He was then hired by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office where he supervised narcotics prosecution and tried complex criminal cases, including the murder of a police officer. He was named Felony Prosecutor of the Year in 1994.
In 1995, Bob went to work for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office where he became the Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Justice. In this position he supervised 60 prosecutions in Springfield and Chicago.
CHIEF JUDGE:
From 2001 until 2019, Bob has served as a Kane County Circuit Judge. He has heard criminal, civil, and family cases. He has presided over thousands of cases giving him a rich legal knowledge to draw from.
In 2011, the Kane County Circuit Judges elected Bob as Chief Judge. He was responsible for the operation of the entire Kane County court system, as well as the Probation Department and Juvenile Justice Center.
As Chief Judge, Bob also improved the efficiency of the court system by setting budget goals that were both realistic and were met. He also simplified the procedure for getting Orders of Protection. This streamlined system, which saves police officers and citizens hours of waiting, is still in effect today.
Bob has earned very high ratings for “Impartiality”, “Sensitivity to Diversity and Bias”, and “Court Management”. This survey of local lawyers shows Bob’s commitment to fairness, impartiality, and efficiency.
EDUCATOR:
Bob has been a part-time educator for the Criminal Justice programs at Elgin Community College, College of DuPage, and Waubonsee Community College. He has also taught at the Illinois Judicial Education Conference, and in 2010, he authored an 800-page Criminal Law Bench Book for judges presiding over criminal cases.
We look forward to seeing everyone at next week's meeting
