ISRA Alert - To Our FFL Friends: SB 337 Update

Dear Friend,
I am writing you to provide an update on the Illinois State Rifle Association’s lawsuit challenging the legality of Senate Bill 337.
Senate Bill 337, which was signed into law as Public Act 100-1178, requires federally licensed gun dealers to obtain a state license to sell firearms. Federal licenses cost $90 for three years. A dealer with no posted hours must pay $300 for a three-year license – more than 300 percent of what the cost of a federal dealer license is. If a dealer has posted hours (even as little as one hour) the dealer must pay $1,500 for a three-year state license – more than 16 times the cost of a
federal license.
Challenging a law in court is a long process. The first step was getting the lawsuit filed. The next step is making sure that the lawsuit moves forward.
On Sept. 5, 2019 we will have a preliminary hearing. This will determine if the case will move forward. We will keep you updated as we learn more about this case.
Again, I would ask you to please help us recruit new members to the Illinois State Rifle Association. Please click here to print our membership form and place it in your store and encourage your customers to fight for firearm dealers by joining the Illinois State Rifle Association.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We will not stop fighting bad laws in Illinois and any help you can provide in growing our membership would be most appreciated.
Sincerely,
Richard Pearson
Executive Director
Illinois State Rifle Association
