Executive Directors Message
In only six days one of the most important events in the Legislative Session will occur, Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD). This is the best chance for law-abiding gun owners to show how important our Second Amendment rights are to us. IGOLD could not come at a more opportune time. I expect legislation to begin to move in a few weeks. Now is the time to show
legislators how dedicated we are to preserving our Second Amendment rights.
I am pleased that David Keene, former President of the NRA, former President of the American Conservative Union, author and television commentator will be the key note speaker. I have known David for a long time. You will not find a stauncher supporter of the Second Amendment. For those who would like to meet Mr. Keene, we will have a reception for him on March 27th between 9:30am and 10:30am at the Bank of Springfield Center. Tickets are $250 each and must be purchased in advance through the ISRA office. Tickets are limited. Proceeds will go toward the battle for our Second Amendment rights. Here is the schedule for IGOLD:
We have been receiving calls asking which states have Constitutional Carry. They are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming. The total stands at 16 states right now. The shooting in New Zealand was designed to push gun control and, of course, the choir of canaries in the liberal media started chirping right on queue. Predictably, the media blamed President Trump for the whole thing. I imagine if two asteroids collide in a galaxy 20,000 light years away it would be the President’s fault, according to CNN, MSNBC, ABC and CBS. This illogical blame game will only heat up as we get closer to the 2020 elections. The left-wing talking heads have brought forth a couple of ideas to tamper with our proven institutions. Their first is to tamper with the United States Supreme Court by “packing” the Court. To do this, the number of Justices would be increased, presumably, with left-wing ideologues to overwhelm the conservatives on the Court. This has been tried before by FDR. Their second idea is to have term limits on the Justices or to have reappointment hearings every so many years. If any of those ideas were passed, every year we would have a fiasco like the Kavanaugh hearings. Any of these ideas would turn the Supreme Court into a constant ineffective circus, which is what the left wants. Presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren is railing against the Electoral College. The Electoral College was designed as one last step should the electorate elect some clown or traitor to the Presidency. You can tell who should not be elected by the candidates who hate the Electoral College. The Electoral College has worked just fine and should be left alone. The United States Supreme Court and the Electoral College were both designed to prevent mob rule and prevent tyranny. Most people equate tyranny with dictatorship but that is not necessarily so. Any form of government can become tyrannical including democracies. Maryland is one of those anti-gun states that demonstrates the total disdain anti-gunners have for gun owners. A recent hearing on SB1000 shows how far their total disrespect for Maryland firearm owning citizens goes. SB1000 would eliminate the appeals process for Maryland citizens who are denied a Maryland Handgun Permit. Shari Judah, a former member of the of the Permit Review Board, was dragged out of her seat while testifying in the hearing. Ms. Judah was given one minute to testify and she did go over the limit. A one-minute time limit has only one purpose and that is to shut up the opposition so nothing can be written into the record. This is an example of the “jack-booted thug” attitude that the anti-gun side has for us all. Thanks for being a member.
