ISRA Responds to the Seventh Circuit Ruling

The Illinois State Rifle Association is disappointed, but not surprised, by the Seventh Circuit’s ruling against Illinois gun owners in Harrel v. Raoul.

This case has always been about a simple constitutional truth: law-abiding citizens have the right to own commonly used firearms for lawful purposes. Illinois’ so-called “assault weapon” ban attacks that right and turns responsible gun owners into targets of government overreach.

We strongly disagree with the court’s decision. The Second Amendment is not a second-class right, and Illinois cannot be allowed to ban firearms simply because politicians don’t like them.

While this ruling is frustrating, it is not the end of the fight. ISRA looks forward to bringing this case, along with the related challenges, before the United States Supreme Court. We remain hopeful that the Court will uphold the Constitution, protect the rights of law-abiding citizens, and finally put an end to this continued assault on the Second Amendment.

Illinois gun owners should know this: ISRA is not backing down. We will keep fighting in the courts, in Springfield, and across this state until our rights are fully protected.

But we can’t do it alone.

Taking this fight to the United States Supreme Court takes serious resources. Legal battles like this require funding, preparation, and the continued support of Illinois gun owners who refuse to surrender their rights.
