Statement from the Illinois State Rifle Association Opposing the RIFL Act
The
Illinois State Rifle Association strongly condemns the Champaign County Board’s decision to support the RIFL Act. This legislation is a patently unconstitutional attempt to punish lawful firearm manufacturers, federally licensed dealers, and responsible gun owners for crimes committed by violent criminals.
By imposing an unprecedented $821 million baseline fee and threatening manufacturers with million-dollar monthly fines, the RIFL Act is
designed to make it financially impossible to manufacture or sell firearms in Illinois. It does nothing to stop gangs, drug dealers, or repeat offenders. Instead, it targets law-abiding citizens who purchase firearms for self-defense, hunting, and competitive shooting.
Supporters claim this bill shifts costs away from taxpayers. In reality, it shifts blame onto lawful businesses and citizens while undermining a fundamental constitutional
right.
The Illinois State Rifle Association will vigorously oppose the RIFL Act and stand firm in defense of the Second Amendment rights of Illinois residents.
