The battle over Illinois’ so-called “assault weapons ban” has taken a major turn. The Justice Department’s top civil rights official, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, is stepping directly into the fight – and will personally argue in
support of the ban before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago this month.
Court records confirm that the panel has granted Dhillon five minutes of argument time, ceded to her by opponents of the law. This means the Biden Administration is putting its full weight behind keeping this unconstitutional ban in place.
