Illinois gun owners in Southern Illinois have a great resource that many don’t know about.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources operates a year-round, public pistol, rifle, and shotgun range at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta — and it’s open right now.

This is a state-run range designed for safe, responsible shooting and recreation. It’s a solid option for practice, sight-in, and bringing new shooters out to the range.

Range Details
The range is open Thursday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from November through April, pending scheduled events.

It’s a 40-yard range open to pistol, rifle, and shotgun shooters.

Cost
Adults: $10 per participant
Youth: $7 per participant
Cardboard targets are available for $2.

Important Rules
Eye and ear protection are mandatory.
No steel-core ammunition.
No concealed carry on the firing line.
A range officer will sign shooters in on site.

To reserve a time, text (618) 443-8977.
Time slots are available up to 1½ hours before closing.

Illinois gun owners are often told there are “no places to shoot.” That’s simply not true — but you have to know where to look.
