The ISRA learned at 12:50 PM today 5/27/25 that SB8 will be heard in the Gun Violence Prevention Committee at 2pm.
In true Illinois fashion it is now 1:15pm and
the bill is still not listed in the committee posting. Click here to see the committee posting and file a witness slip on SB8, opposed, representing "self" once the bill actually posts up to the committee.
For more information on this bad bill, read below....
Senate Bill 8 requires all firearms in your home, vehicle, land, building or other structures to be locked up if you have reason to believe that someone under 18 (instead of 14) might have access to them. Previously, your could safely store firearms in areas inaccessible
to those under 14, and there was no such requirement for vehicles, land, or buildings. This bill moves the age to 18 and requires locked storage for firearms at all times. A first time violation of this law is a minimum $1000 fine. This takes away your ability to have quick access to a firearm in case of break in or need for self defense.
