This week, a federal appeals court struck down New Mexico’s 7-day waiting period on firearm purchases, ruling it likely unconstitutional. Judge Tymkovich and the majority made it clear: “cooling-off” delays have no basis in our nation’s history and traditions, and they punish law-abiding citizens.

In his statement, Doug explains why this ruling matters for Illinois. Our state still imposes waiting periods that leave good people defenseless—while criminals face no such restrictions.
