CAUTION! Deer Season! Please be on guard when driving!!! It is deer season again and they are out running around at night. I have already seen several of them

be gun owners but we are seeing the truth. I know you are saying you knew that they were faking it all along but there are those who are always hard to convince. Tim Walz’s stellar performance while pheasant hunting shows the truth. How about that brand new hunting vest? You would think that it was fresh off the store shelf. What we see being revealed as we get close to the election is one of the arguments against early voting. The closer we get to an election the more we know about the candidates. Candidates and their campaigns can keep the stinky stuff about themselves buried for only so long, but those facades erode away the closer we get to Election Day. The Hunter Biden coverup in 2020 is a prime example. The media and government bureaucrats were all in on the
scam, which we all already knew, but the uninformed among us does not know that. Those who have voted early, unfortunately, cannot change their minds. When it comes to the General Election. I know some of you are in the “what’s the use” crowd. Don’t be. The anti-gun socialist types out there are depending on that. By going to vote,
you take that tactic away from them. The bogus charges against Donald Trump were an attempt to get you to not vote. Another important thing to remember is that voting for the “down ballot candidates” is where we can all make a difference. Down ballot candidates are all those running for lessor offices below the top of the ballot...in this
case, Presidential candidates Trump-Vance and Harris-Walz. At the federal level, Senators and Representatives are really important and are critical to our cause. In Illinois, all 17 Congressional seats are up for election. In the Illinois General Assembly, all 118
State Representative seats are up for election. In the Illinois Senate, 20 seats are up for election. There are also two Illinois Supreme Court seats up for election. Do not discount County races either. They often seek higher office, with their most likely landing spots being as Congressmen or in the Illinois General Assembly. Every two years, approximately one-third of seats are up for election. Now you can see how important it is to vote! I always give this admonition: stop looking for the perfect candidate, no one is perfect. The only possible exceptions to that are you and me, but I’m beginning to wonder about you! The last day to register online
to vote is Sunday, October 20. The last day to vote early is Monday, November 4. Remember...go vote!!! The Second Amendment is on
the ballot and it needs your support!

The Illinois State Rifle Association is the home of marksmanship in Illinois
Tidbits October 17, 1835 – Texans approve a resolution to create the Texas Rangers. The leaders of Texas discussed the need for some sort of semi-official force that would defend isolated settlements of the Lone Star State from attacks by Native American tribes. This force, the Texas Rangers, became famous for law-enforcement, cracking down on notorious, bandits, killers, thieves
and robbers, and eventually also playing a pivotal role in the Mexican-American War. They did not always follow the law exactly but, wherever they went, the bad guys knew they were in trouble. One of the people who feared the Texas Rangers the most was, surprisingly, Saddam Hussein. October 17, 1777 – Americans win the
battle of Saratoga. The British were made to surrender 6000 men from their army, which was commanded by General John Burgoyne. General Burgoyne, seeing the American forces surrounding him and his troops, commented that the world had changed. He had never seen anything like this before in his military career. The Battle of
Saratoga was important not only because it was a major victory for the Americans, but because France then decided to support the Americans in their war with Great Britain. October 18, 1867 – The United States officially takes possession of Alaska from Russia. The agreed-upon price of the
Alaska land came to two cents per acre. Many Americans thought the deal was ridiculous, however, twenty years later, they changed their minds when gold was found in the Alaska territories. Eventually, oil was also discovered there, making it an ever more valuable deal. October 19, 1781 – George Washington defeats the
British at Yorktown, Virginia. After years of battling, with many defeats and near defeats, George Washington rallied his troops together and caught British General Cornwallis on land while the French cut him off by sea. The British military, believing themselves superior, could not believe what had happened. Remembering the start of the Revolutionary War when the Americans had
no army, navy or training to speak of, the British were out-done by the Americans' tremendous marksmanship skills and exceptional will in their fight for freedom. Cornwallis, refusing to concede the fight himself, sent his second in command, General O'Hara, to surrender. As he did so, the British band played the song “The World Upside-Down.” October 20, 1803 – The United States Senate approves a treaty with France for the purchase of the territory of Louisiana. This one purchase would double the size of the United States. Napoleon knew that selling Louisiana to the Americans would stop British ambitions for the territory. They also wanted to make sure that the United States would become an adversary of Great Britain on the world stage. Napoleon was correct in this regard. October 20, 1797 – The U.S. Constitution is launched
in Boston Harbor. The forty-four gun U.S. Navy frigate was designed to fight the Barberry Pirates off the coast of Tripoli. All countries but the United States were forced to pay tribute to them. Thomas Jefferson, when speaking of the Barberry Pirates, quipped “Not a dime of tribute should be paid.” The ship and crew of the
U.S. Constitution performed wonderfully well and, in 1805, a peace treaty with Tripoli was signed on deck aboard the Constitution. In the War of 1812, the ship earned it's nickname, “Old Ironsides”, after defeating the British warship, Guerriere. The ship's sturdy oak timbers, harvested from the forests of the United States, were so tough, the British cannonballs simply bounced off
the ship's sides. October 24, 1921 – An unknown soldier, an American Sergeant, was selected to be honored. In all, four unknown soldiers, were selected, placed in caskets and interred. Sergeant Edward Younger placed flowers upon one of the four caskets and that soldier is now interred in the tomb at Arlington National
Cemetery.
