“The Illinois State Rifle Association in the strongest of terms, does not condone any act of violence, whether it is political or non-political – and Saturday’s attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump should never be a solution to addressing our political differences.
We are grateful that President Trump is safe and on the road to recovery, and we applaud the U.S. Secret Service who bravely rushed the stage and selflessly put their own lives in danger to protect him.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family of Corey Comperatore, a firefighter, who died while trying to protect his family from gunfire while attending the rally. We’re also thinking
of the other victims and their families and wishing them a full recovery.
As an organization, we remain committed to protecting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens regardless of political affiliation, and dedicated to teaching firearm safety and training. The right to “keep and bear arms” extends to every American – and not just a select few. And while we share differences in opinion with our opponents
on the other side, we must remember that at the end of the day, we are all Americans living in the greatest country on earth.”
