LITIGATION
UPDATES I am pleased to report that one of the lawsuits that the ISRA is part of, along with the Second Amendment Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition and three other plaintiffs, has moved into the victory column. Last Friday, the judge issued a summary judgment in our favor of the Schoenthal Case, in Federal Court at the Northern District Western Division. The Schoenthal lawsuit dealt with concealed carry on public transportation and the section of the Illinois Concealed Carry Act which banned it. The judge in issuing summary judgment, ruled that section of the
Concealed Carry Act, was unconstitutional. The judge issued no injunction preventing the state from enforcing the law. Public transportation is one of the most dangerous places you can be. According to the Chicago Tribune, there have been 647 violent attacks on the CTA this year. Those are just the ones that
have been reported. If you’re attacked, there’s no escape. Don’t try carrying on public transportation, just yet. I am sure this case will be appealed to the Seventh Circuit and later to the Supreme Court of the United States. Still, a win is a win, and we’ll take it. The ISRA will continue to fight for the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. If you’re not a member, please join. The countdown has begun for our trial in the United States District Court of Southern Illinois, on September 16. We are ready and prepared. Whatever happens, our case Harrel v Raoul is bound for the Supreme Court of the United States. That is the plan. If you would like to donate to us, please visit: https://isra.org/support-us/. Thank you for your support! |

September is the Gateway to Fall. Soon the days will be shorter and shorter,
the nights will become cooler, and the days will be warm and gentle. It is the best time of the year. It is also hunting season. There is nothing like being in the field on a fresh morning hunting pheasants, quail, geese, ducks, or in a deer stand. I wish fall could last longer. Big Game Hunting Seasons Have Already Started Around the Country. I know of a couple
people headed west for antelope, while others are preparing for elk, caribou, and black bear seasons. It won’t be long before deer season is here in Illinois. Remember the more time you spend at the range with your rifle, slug gun, crossbow, or bow, the more likely you are to have success. Most people don’t start early enough or practice long enough. Be sure you’re not one of them! Don't forget to come to our Range Sighting-In-Day on October 19th. We are holding a special raffle for participants on the day-of-the event-only. For every firearm you sight in, we will include a raffle ticket for a Ruger 400 Legend w/Vortex 3-9x40 scope. This is an awesome rifle which has an adjustable stock, which is great for both adults and young hunters. This rifle is the perfect rifle for the newly instituted Illinois rifle deer
season. <Click here for raffle flier>, and <here to download the raffle order form>. Workday at the ISRA Range We appreciate all our Range members who put in their time and help us on our monthly workdays. This month’s workday is this Saturday the 7th. Please be at the Range
by 8:00 am. We will be landscaping, trimming and repairing target frames. Workdays are scheduled on the first Saturday of every month. Last Range Tour Date of the Year Saturday, September 7th is our last Range Tour of the year from 10am-11:30am and 1pm-2:30pm. Don’t miss out on
the $50 Range Membership coupon that is good until October 1st.<Click here for application>. You can also call the Range to schedule a private tour anytime. |
Illinois Wants to Take Firearms Without Due Process? ISRA Lobbyist Ed Sullivan talks about Karina's Bill, an attempt to use emotions to override due process and take away your firearms in this latest video on ISRA YouTube.
GET IN THE FIGHT, STAY IN THE FIGHT, JOIN THE ISRA To Join the ISRA, Go To: https://isra.org/join-us/ The Biden-Harris and Walz Trio Aka: the three stooges are demanding law-abiding Americans to give up their semiautomatic firearms. The events of the past week demonstrate both their hypocrisy and incompetence. Last week was the third anniversary of the fall of Kabul Afghanistan. Former President Donald Trump laid three wreathes at Arlington National Cemetery in honor of the 13 American soldiers who needlessly lost their lives. In Afghanistan, the Taliban celebrated their third year in power by displaying Biden and Harris’s incompetence, by having a parade with military hardware left behind by the Biden-Harris administration in their poorly planned withdrawal from Afghanistan. Biden-Harris were responsible for turning
over military weapons to one of our nations enemies, who perpetrated the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil, but say US citizens shouldn't have an AR-15. We'll see about that!

Tidbits Because History Matters September 5, 1774 – The First Continental Congress Convenes Delegates from all the colonies except from Georgia were represented. This monumental event in the formation of early American history, met at Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. The Continental Congress started out as just a temporary group, but in a relatively short time, it became the government body for the 13 colonies and ultimately the official governing body of the United States. The first Continental Congress issued the Articles of Association and readied the American people for the possibility for the overthrow of the British rule. That alone was an unbelievably courageous act, for the times. September 5, 1836 – Sam Houston is Elected as President of Texas. Houston, a veteran of the war of 1812 was sent to Texas by President Andrew Jackson, to negotiate treaties with local Native Americans for protection of border states. In 1835, Texans formed a government and issued a Declaration of Independence from Mexico. The following year Houston was appointed military commander of the Texan Army. After a short period of
recovering from his wounds from the battle of San Jacinto, Houston became president of Texas. Later, after Texas became a state, he would serve as governor and then as United States Senator from Texas. He was opposed to the succession of Texas from the Union, in the Civil War. Because of that, he was removed from the office. He died of pneumonia in 1863. September 6, 1901 –
President William McKinley Shot While attending the Pan-American Exposition in New York, President McKinley was mortally wounded. The president had Secret Service protection as well as soldiers and local police protection, but he found them annoying and made the Secret Service agents move out of the way, which was a big mistake. McKinley was shot with an Iver Johnson 32 caliber revolver. The assassin fired two shots. The first shot hit a button on his coat and was deflected., However, the second shot entered his stomach and pierced his pancreas. He would die eight days later. McKinley was the last Civil War veteran to be elected president of the United States. Theodore Roosevelt, who was shoved into the vice president spot to keep him and his ideas out of the public eye, suddenly became president
of the United States. September 7, 1776 – The First Submarine Attack in U.S. History The American submarine “Turtle”, attempted to attach a timebomb to British flagship “Eagle”, commanded by Admiral Richard Howes while anchored in New York Harbor. The Master helmsman of the Turtle was Ezra Lee. He failed to get the timebomb
attached because of its inadequate boring tools. “We’re not strong enough to penetrate the iron sheeting of the ship”, he said. I wonder what Ezra Lee would think, if he saw today’s nuclear-powered submarines. September 9, 1776 – Congress Re-Names the United Colonies, the United States of America. The USA is officially born. September 11, 2001 – New York’s World Trade Center Collapses At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Boeing 767 hits the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Seventeen minutes later, United Airlines 767 hit the South Tower. I was watching television and saw the plane hit the South Tower. It is one of those days that a person never
forgets. Nineteen Islamic terrorists commandeered four airplanes. At 9:37 a.m., a third plane hit the Pentagon Building. A fourth airplane was forced down by the brave passengers and flight attendants and crashed into a field. Those people on that airplane were truly heroes. That was 23 years ago, but to me it seems like yesterday. It appears that we’ve lost all the lessons we learned from
that day. Those who forget history are destined to relive it. "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny or obliterate their own understanding of their history." George Orwell
