Thursday Bulletin – May 9, 2024 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson High-Capacity Magazines Anti-gunners in
the United States, like to characterize any magazine that has more than 10 rounds in it, as a high-capacity magazine. This of course is utter hogwash. They’re just standard capacity magazines. But for the sake of argument, it looks like they – the anti-gunners – are losing the battle. The latest figures showed there are 964 million magazines in the United States. Of these magazines, 717 million would be classified as high capacity by the anti-gun side. By the time you
read this, it’ll be 720 million, or more. Limiting the number of rounds a magazine can hold, of course only helps the criminals! For some reason, our legislators seem to be on the criminal side. I congratulate all those who have magazines that are more than 10 rounds for defending themselves, and freedom at the same time. Dangerous Jobs Delivery drivers of all kinds are often the subject of crimes. In Cleveland, Ohio, one Amazon driver decided to carry his concealed carry firearm on duty. Many company policies dictate that employees cannot carry firearms while at work. Of course, the company bigwigs are not the ones at risk. They have their own security. Thankfully, the Amazon driver decided to defend
himself, anyway. His truck was the subject of an attempted hijacking. The driver defended himself and shot the hijacker, who got away with the truck, but died shortly thereafter. Just for the record, another Amazon driver was murdered in January while delivering packages in the state of Washington. The Washington state senators are now discussing increased death benefits for people in the
delivery, livery and rideshare businesses. I think their time would be better spent by offering a reward for those who defend themselves by taking a piece of scum off the street! Legislative Update Right Now in Springfield The ISRA lobbyists are doing a fabulous job. No anti-gun bills have moved so far. There are only a few
weeks left in the legislative session. The legislature will adjourn on May 31. There’s always a chance for a special session in the summer, but we will have to wait and see. If a summer session does occur, bills must pass with the super majority, which means that 60% of the members of the General Assembly has to vote on them. That makes it tougher for everybody.

Litigation News On the litigation front, our court cases are grinding along with the speed of a sloth. The Harrel v Raoul lawsuit will have a status hearing
on May 16 in the Federal Court for the Southern District of Illinois. This case is before Judge McGlynn, and we may have some more directions after the 16th or shortly after the 16th. The Reece v Raoul lawsuit deals with the purchase of firearms during the short preliminary injunction period issued by Judge McGlynn last year. All the papers for appeal have been filed in that case. We are
waiting for a reply from the court. As always, we will keep you updated. The Schoenthal v Raoul lawsuit deals with concealed-carry on public transportation. All our filings have been completed for summary judgment. The judge is now reviewing our documents.

Tidbits May 9, 1914 – The First Mother’s Day President Woodrow Wilson proclaims the first national Mother’s Day holiday. The idea came from Julia Ward Howe in 1872, but others credit Anna Jarvis in 1907. Several states had a day of recognition for Mother’s Day, but it was not until President Wilson established the second Sunday of May as the official Mother’s Day. Thank you to all
mothers out there! May 9, 1978 – Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro Assassinated He was found dead in the back of a car in Rome, Italy. Moro had been kidnapped by a group of left-wing terrorists called the Red Brigade. May 10, 1773 – The British Tea Act British parliament passes the Tea Act. The Tea Act was an effort to squeeze as much money out of the American Colonies as possible. This along with a series of other acts, infuriated the colonists, and was a major cause of the Revolutionary War. There is no one thing that caused the Revolutionary War, but rather a series
of events that “lit the fuse to a powder keg” which would “blow up in the British government’s face”. May 11, 1934 – The Great Dust Storm A great dust storm sweeps across the plains and carries dust to the East Coast and out into the Atlantic Ocean. This storm caught everyone’s attention. Many
farmers were destroyed financially by this storm, as well as other parts of the economy. This led to the farming conservation practices that we have today, to help prevent such events from happening ever again. May 12, 1957 – Race Car Driver A.J. Foyt Realizes First Victory on the professional race car circuit. He went on to win his first Indy 500 in
1961. May 15, 1942 – Army Women Helped Defeat Hitler Congress passes, and the president signs legislation creating the Women’s Army Corps (WACS). In all, 16,000 women joined the army and served as clerks, radio operators, and air traffic controllers. Women served in every theater of operation during
World War II.
