ISRA Statement on the Implementation of PA 102-1116
One Week After the Forced Registration of Common Firearms Goes Live
Gov. Pritzker continues his assault on law-abiding gun owners in Illinois by forcing firearm owners to make a life-altering decision: register your firearms, including
most semi-automatic rifles, many hunting shotguns and some semi-automatic pistols commonly used for personal defense by January 1, 2024, or potentially face felony charges and go to prison. And how do you define a modern semi-automatic or sporting rifle? Neither Pritzker or the legislature knows - and that’s the point.
And how about your semi-automatic pistol or shotgun? Under this new law, it could be illegal too. This also includes the parts used to maintain and
operate these legally acquired firearms. Do you have an extended tube magazine for a semi-automatic shotgun, or a forward grip for an airsoft replica that could also be used on a semi-automatic gun? Under the emergency rules filed by the Illinois State Police, these items have to be registered as “assault weapons” attachments.
This isn’t about registering your firearms, ammunition, and parts – it’s much bigger than that. It’s about making legal guns illegal and forcing 2.4
million law-abiding firearm owners in Illinois to make a decision: follow King Pritzker’s orders, or face arrest and possibly prison.
True to his billionaire roots, Governor Pritzker has seen to it that those who can afford a private security force have better access to second amendment rights than the working-class men and women of Illinois, while the ISRA continues to fight for the rights of all citizens.
And while we remain confident that our case
will prevail whether at its current forum at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals or whether the case makes it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court – the highest court in the land, time is not on our side. January 1st will be here before we know it.
As an organization, while we cannot advocate that our members knowingly violate the law and thus expose themselves to possible criminal penalties which can be used to strip them of their Second Amendment rights
altogether, we also cannot sit by while law-abiding citizens – hardworking men and women of this state, are forced to make such a difficult and personal decision. This is why, though ISRA will continue to support the fight against this unconstitutional law, we want to make sure you have the following information so that you may act accordingly.
